Sen. Akilah Weber Pierson, M.D., Doctors, Line Up Behind Dr. Sion Roy for SD24 Race

SENATE DISTRICT 24 — Prominent San Diego Senator Akilah Weber Pierson, M.D. (SD39) is the latest elected official and medical professional to throw their support behind Dr. Sion Roy in the pivotal Senate District 24 race. With attacks on Medi Cal funding from the Federal level, it is critical to have physician voices in the legislature to tackle these difficult issues. That’s why doctors and medical advocates have lined up in a remarkable way behind Dr. Sion Roy.

“I’m pleased to endorse Dr. Sion Roy for Senate District 24,” said Senator Weber Pierson, M.D. “Whether serving as the President of the Los Angeles County Medical Association during one of the greatest health crises in recent memory, or navigating tough budget decisions as Chair of the Santa Monica College Board, Dr. Roy has led through challenging times. We need his voice and experience in Sacramento to fight for Medi Cal funding and recovery funds for victims of January’s horrific fires, and to help lead our state through the tough times we are currently facing. No one knows this district better or has made more of an impact on people’s lives in SD24 than Dr. Roy, and I am proud to add my name to the list of leaders supporting him for Senate.”

“Senator Weber Pierson has a record of fighting for expanded access to healthcare for all Californians,” said Dr. Roy. “It is a great honor to receive the endorsement of a fellow doctor and someone who understands the pivotal time we are in with healthcare on the line. I’m enormously proud to have Senator Weber Pierson’s support in our race for SD24.”

Previously, Dr. Roy secured the endorsements of Rep. Ami Bera, M.D., Assemblymember Darshana Patel, M.D., Assemblymembers Dr. Jasmeet Bains and Dr. Darshana Patel, and the Hon. Richard Pan, M.D., as well as medical organized labor groups including SEIU CA and the Union of American Physicians and Dentists (UAPD) Local 206, and industry groups like the California Medical Association and the Los Angeles County Medical Association. This announcement follows an ever growing group of over 70 community-based endorsements, federal, state, and local elected officials, area Democratic clubs, and organized labor.
