SENATE DISTRICT 24 — Dr. Sion Roy is proud to announce a number of endorsements today from leading AAPI leaders, starting with Rep. Dave Min (CA 47). Rep. Min has been a powerful leader in both Los Angeles and Orange County in the State Senate (SD37), and he has earned a reputation in the House during his first term for standing up to the Trump Administration’s attacks on civil liberties and medicare.
Two leading voices of the Assembly have also endorsed Dr. Roy– Assemblymembers Dr. Jasmeet Bains (AD35) and Dr. Darshana Patel (AD76). Assemblymember Bains, a practicing physician before being elected, has fought against fentanyl and opioid addiction in her home district, as well as advocating for seniors and first-responders. Since her election in November of 2024, Assemblymember Patel has worked to increase protections for people who work in or visit daycares, schools, universities, workplaces, houses of worship, or medical facilities.
Said Assemblymember Patel, “Dr. Sion Roy is someone who gets things done– for his patients, for students, and for his fellow Angelenos. His commitment to take on big challenges like broadening access to healthcare, ensuring a safe and speedy recovery from the Palisades fire, and increasing educational opportunities for all students, will serve him well in the Senate, and his district will be better off for it. I whole-heartedly endorse Dr. Sion Roy as the right choice for Senate District 24.”
One of the most prominent physician legislators in recent years, Senator Dr. Richard Pan, who represented Senate District 6 from 2014 to 2022 and served as the former Chair of the Asian American Pacific Islander Legislative Caucus, has endorsed Dr. Roy as well. A leader on issues of public health, Dr. Pan helped California weather the COVID pandemic, just as Dr. Roy did in Los Angeles County.
Rounding out the cache of endorsements are Harini Krishnan, National Organizing Chair for South Asians for America (SAFA), Vice Chair of the Finance Committee of the California Democratic Party, and Democratic National Committee delegate, and Deepa Sharma, State Chair of the California Democratic Party’s Asian American/Pacific Islander Caucus.
Said Dr. Roy, “To have the endorsement of a leader like Rep. Min, physician voices like Assemblymembers Bains and Patel, as well as Dr. Pan, and Harini Krishnan, a California political powerhouse who does so much for South Asian inclusion, means so much to me. I’m honored by their confidence; they spur me on to work even harder for the values we all share in Sacramento.”
Dr. Sion Roy is a physician, professor, and education advocate passionate about improving the lives of all Californians.
