In balloting Wednesday night, Dr. Sion Roy won the endorsement of the Santa Monica Democratic Club (SMDC) with a commanding 77.46% of the vote. Wednesday night’s virtual meeting also set a club record for the most votes cast in its history. The previous Wednesday, SMDC hosted a candidate forum in which Dr. Roy laid out his vision for the district. Concentrating on lowering the cost of living, as well as shoring up the social safety-net and MediCal, Dr. Roy spoke about concentrating on the issues that would affect residents locally.

In a show of overwhelming local support, Dr. Sion Roy has captured the endorsements of a large group of current and former elected officials in the city of Santa Monica. As a Malibu resident who lost his home in the Palisades fire and the Vice-Chair of the Santa Monica College (SMC) Board of Trustees, Roy’s local roots run deep. 

Dr. Sion Roy reported over $465,000 raised for end of quarter reporting, far exceeding most of the other candidates in the race. A familiar presence in the community as parent, education advocate, medical authority, and Vice-Chair of the Santa Monica College Board of Trustees, Dr. Roy’s campaign has gained momentum and an ever growing list of endorsers who trust him to lead the district in the State Senate.

Endorsements continue to roll in for Dr. Sion Roy’s campaign for Senate District 24. The latest group to add their names to his roster of supporters are education advocates.

Dr. Sion Roy is pleased to announce the endorsement of Representative Ami Bera, M.D. Like Dr. Roy, Rep. Bera is a physician who also became involved in education, becoming the Assistant Dean of the Medical School at the University of California, Irvine. In 2013, Dr. Bera was elected to Congress where he serves on the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence, and the House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic.
