SENATE DISTRICT 24 — Dr. Sion Roy is proud to announce the endorsement of Sierra Club California, one of the most respected and oldest environmental advocacy organizations in California. Sierra Club was originally founded by John Muir and a group of advocates from California in 1882 to protect the state’s wilderness areas, and they have grown into one of the most influential conservation organizations in the nation. Sierra Club California’s endorsement of Dr. Roy for one of the most competitive Senate races in the state is a validation of his commitment to conserving our coastal areas, environmentally sound wildfire prevention and mitigation policy, and using the lens of environmental justice in evaluating legislation.
There is no greater existential threat facing our planet than climate change,” said Dr. Roy. “From extreme weather conditions all over the world, to the factors that led to horrific damage of the Palisades fire in January of last year where my family and I lost our home, environmental advocacy and combatting climate change are not optional– they are a mandatory part of the job of all legislators. And with the rollbacks of hard won environmental protections from our Federal government, it is even more incumbent on Sacramento to stand as a bulwark and protect our state’s environment.
