Dr. Sion Roy Earns Coveted Endorsement of CA Medical Assoc. In Race for State Senate

SENATE DISTRICT 24 — On Friday, the Dr. Sion Roy for State Senate campaign proudly announced the endorsement of the California Medical Association (CMA). The organization represents over 55,000 physicians in the state and has a storied history over its 165 years. With the goal of promoting science and medicine, improving the medical profession, and protecting patients and the public, CMA’s endorsement signals the confidence the organization has that Dr. Roy will be a leader in Sacramento who will help improve access to quality healthcare for all Californians.

“In both his professional and personal capacities, Dr. Sion Roy has been a tireless and passionate advocate for the health and well-being of his community,” said Shannon Udovic-Constant, M.D., president of the California Medical Association. “As a distinguished cardiologist, dedicated professor, and tireless public health champion, Dr. Roy’s commitment to improving the lives of others is unparalleled, and his leadership has had a profound impact on countless individuals. The California Medical Association wholeheartedly encourages voters to elect Dr. Roy to the State Senate, where he will undoubtedly continue his remarkable work on behalf of the community he so deeply cares for and serves with unwavering dedication.”

“I could not be more honored to have the support of CMA,” said Dr. Roy. “CMA is made up of a diverse group of my physician colleagues from every part of our state who spend their professional lives caring for the healthcare needs of the families in their communities. I admire all of these colleagues greatly. I hope to go to Sacramento and advocate for policies that make it easier for all California families to receive quality healthcare so that they can thrive.”

As a longtime physician at Harbor-UCLA hospital in Torrance, and the youngest ever President of the Los Angeles County Medical Association, Dr. Roy has long been vocal in advocating for better access to healthcare and for accurate dissemination of medical information. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Dr. Roy’s expertise was sought by policy-makers as he helped to shape Los Angeles County’s response to the virus. On the Santa Monica College Board of Trustees (he is currently the Vice-Chair), he has championed healthcare workforce programs like the Certified Nursing Assistant and Home Health Aide Certificate programs.
