Physician. Professor.

Meet Sion Roy
Public Health Expert
As a Cardiologist and Associate Professor of Medicine, Dr. Roy has mentored countless students while advancing patient care for underserved communities at Harbor-UCLA Public Hospital in Torrance.
As the youngest-ever President of the Los Angeles County Medical Association, his expertise was sought by elected officials to help guide the region through the COVID-19 pandemic, advocate for public health, and shape policies that prioritize equity, accessibility, and the well-being of all residents.

Dedication to Education
Elected to the Santa Monica College Board in 2018 and re-elected in 2022, Dr. Roy currently serves as Vice Chair, where he championed workforce programs like the Certified Nursing Assistant & Home Health Aide Certificate programs and led the opening of Santa Monica College’s new 25,000-square-foot Malibu campus. A longtime advocate for K-12 advancement, Dr. Sion Roy served as PTA President for Webster Elementary in Malibu, spearheaded community-building initiatives, and helped pass Measure MM to improve local schools.
Sion earned his B.A. from Johns Hopkins University and his M.D. from the Virginia Commonwealth University School of Medicine, after completing a year of service in AmeriCorps. He lives in Malibu with his wife, Kathy, and their son, Kiran, who is a proud student of local public schools.

Committed to Westside and Southbay Families
Dr. Roy and his family, like many in the District, lost their home in January’s devastating Palisades Fire. This experience drives his commitment to helping the region rebuild by ensuring communities have access to the state resources they need to recover, grow stronger, and thrive. A longtime physician at Harbor- UCLA Public Hospital in Torrance and elected official in Santa Monica and Malibu, Dr. Roy understands the entire district’s diverse needs firsthand.
In Sacramento, he will fight to protect and expand access to healthcare and reproductive rights, tackle the mental health crisis, and champion environmental protections to safeguard residents from the effects of climate change.
